“The contemporary policy in the field of education has a positive effect on Russian teachers’ community as the vast majority of teachers are generally satisfied with their job. Nevertheless, there is a range of urgent problems that remain over the last five years” – that’s what Volume I of TALIS-2018 (Teaching and Learning International Survey), carried out by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), demonstrates.
The study was conducted through an online survey for school teachers and principals. It was aimed at collecting data about pedagogical, methodological and social changes occurring at schools. This makes it possible to examine the education system from a school community standpoint. The survey sample covers more than 4000 teachers and principals from 230 schools in 14 regions.
Russian participants of the TALIS-2018 are satisfied with their profession: 91% of them are generally satisfied with their work, 90% are glad to work at their schools and 86% will recommend their schools as a good place to study at. Another positive finding is that the number of hours spent on doing paperwork, has decreased slightly in the last 5 years, but still remain among the highest compared to other participating countries.
Volume II of the TALIS-2018 research will be issued in March 2020.
